The East Java coastal zone of Indonesia is rich in marine biodiversity and home to millions of inhabitants. However, the region is also facing threats such as coastal erosion, degradation of ecological resources, and unbalanced development caused by sea level rise and the impact of human activities.
The project protected 30 hectares of mangroves and coral reefs in Pasir Putih community in Situbondo City and Duwet community in Pekalogan City, restored 25,000 mangrove plants and 550 corals, carried out 12 science popularisation activities and 3 eco-products capacity building activities, and directly motivated 850 community members to participate in marine conservation actions, and improved the climate of more than 6,000 people in the project area.
