The "One Hundred Million Suosuo" project was launched in 2014, with the goal of planting 100 million desert plants, represented by Suosuo, over a ten-year period in key ecological areas of Alxa. The project aims to restore 2 million acres of desert vegetation and improve the livelihoods of local farmers and herders by leveraging the economic value derived from Suosuo. As of 2024, over 95.5 million desert plants have been planted.
Building on ten years of project experience, starting in 2024, the project will expand to key desertification areas in Inner Mongolia and five provinces (and autonomous regions) in the northwest of China. Another 100 million desert plants, represented by Suosuo, will be planted to promote ecological restoration, drive industrial development, and achieve sustainable rural revitalization, ensuring that the desert no longer spreads.
