Groundwater Conservation project plans to promote at least 2,000 hectares of water-saving crops in Yaoba Oasis in 5 years. It aims to reduce the exploitation of groundwater from agricultural activities through promotion of water-saving crops and technologies in Yaoba Oasis of Alxa Desert. In the meantime, the project also proactively explores new agricultural development modes that can accomplish both groundwater conservation and livelihood improvement. By June 2019, more than 550 households have participated in the project. Accumulatively over 1600 hectares of farmland have been converted to growing the water-saving millet and more than 12 million cubic meters of water have been saved.
